Jottings from Judith

Some of you have asked about my recent study leave and vacation, and I would like to share some highlights with you here. Dave and I participated in the Whitworth Institute of Ministry in Spokane, WA, from July 9-13. The featured speakers were Eugene Peterson (The Message), Roberta Hestenes (minister-at-large, World Vision), and Eugene Palmer (UPC Seattle). The sessions and lectures were most informative and inspiring. After the Institute, we were able to visit Sharon McBean and help her celebrate a significant birthday. Sharon is doing very well and spending lots of quality time with one of her daughters and her granddaughter. She was a gracious host and led us on a delightful tour of her beautiful surroundings on Fidalgo Island. We also took a ferry to San Juan Island and were able to see Orcas offshore from Lime Kiln Lighthouse. Some of you may remember Sharman and Tom Badgett-Young, who were active members of our church until they moved to the Seattle area about 12 years ago. We were also able to spend a couple of days with them, including a ferry ride and a drive the length of Whidbey Island. We also visited some of Dave's relatives in Portland. Great times!

The people seated in the top right picture are the Rev. Drs. Earl Palmer, Eugene Peterson, and Roberta Hestenes, with Dr. Bill Robinson, President of Whitworth University, on the far right. Pictured below is Sharon McBean in her condo in Anacortes, WA.

PresbyFolks Travels to See Kiss Me, Kate in Solvang
On Sunday, July 22nd, our PresbyFolks traveled by van to Solvang for a delicious box dinner of Cornish game hen and all the fixings (prepared by chef Kay) and then a wonderful production of Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate. The PCPA Theaterfest production was absolutely outstanding, the sky was starry and clear, and another good time was had by all. Special thanks to Don and Esther Bennett for all of their work planning this event. See the flyer below for the next PresbyFolks event at the Music Academy of the West.
