Workshops: Afternoon Session
[A1] Christ Calls Us to Heal
“…proclaiming recovery of sight to the blind…”
Jim Witty of Care Corps,
International treats those traumatized by war and devastation. Kathy Marsh Baxter of International Teams,
London office, directs pastoral care of mission workers, providing counsel,
training, and spiritual resources to those on the field. Jim and Kathy will talk about their
ministries of healing.
[A2] Christ Calls Us to the Oppressed
“…releasing the oppressed…”
Philip Prasad of Witnessing
Ministries of Christ (India’s Untouchables) and Nita Hanson of God’s Hidden
Treasures (Ukraine) minister to the oppressed.
They will show how Christ’s
promise to the oppressed is acted out in their work in India and the Ukraine.
[A3] Presbyterian Mission Today
New and refreshing things are
happening in mission in the Presbyterian Church (USA). A new administration in Louisville is
bringing renewal and a firm connection to our 170 year mission past. Art Beals, distinguished mission mobilizer,
and Caryl Weinberg, veteran PC(USA) mission worker (Ghana, Ethiopia, Cameroon,
Congo), will bring you up to date and present a view of the future.
[A4] Reaching the Unreached in Central Asia
Woody and Barbara Busse,
veteran PC(USA) mission workers, began work in the “stans” shortly after the
fall of the Soviet Union. Bob and Carl
Ohman of our presbytery work also in Central Asia under a different sending
agency. They will relate mission at the
frontier, where people have never been reached by the Gospel.
[A5] Mission as Church Development
The Presbytery of Santa Barbara
is abuzz in activity in New Church Developments (“NCDs”) and
redevelopments. Pastor Dave Wilkinson
of Moorpark PC (chartered 1988) will moderate a discussion among pastors at our
newest NCDs and redevelopments: Israel Gonzales of New Covenant (Santa Maria),
Ron Urzua of Word of Life (Port Hueneme), and Graham Baird of Highlands (Paso
Robles).
