Please Support Our Fair Trade Coffee Program
Each week our coffee after church is made with Fair Trade Coffee that supports small farmers in their efforts to make a living by growing coffee. Your contributions ($1 recommended) to help pay for this coffee are most welcome, and you are encouraged to buy coffee beans to use at home. The church has the capability of grinding your coffee for you, if you prefer. A big thank you to Dorothy Dubbles for staffing the display and helping you with your purchases!

Silent Auction to Support Our Youth Program Nets Sailing Fun
Newlyweds Michael and Jan O'Connor were the high bidders for a sail on Dave McEachen and Judith Muller's Sea Note. They sailed for a couple of hours after having lunch at the Santa Barbara Yacht Club. A good time was had by all! Be sure to watch for the next pancake breakfast and silent auction so you can support our youth and have a great time, too. The second highest bidder, Robert and Virginia Hankins, are also getting a sail later in the summer. Thanks for your generous support of our youth!

New Curricula Field Tested in Ethiopia and Mozambique Lifewater
International volunteers and staff began working with manuals in
Transformational Community Development (TCD) and Hand Pump Repair to
train national partners in Ethiopia and Mozambique. Partners report
successful implementation of training sessions and continue to work on
translating the manuals. Lifewater, based in San Luis Obispo, is a
validated ministry of our presbytery.
CHURCH HISTORY BRIEFS by Virginia Chennell Foreign
Missions have long
interested our church members. Iran was the home of Rev. Robert and Mrs.
Pryor and their family; he was a missionary and pastor with the
Presbyterian Church in Teheran. Pastor Judith Muller was raised there by
her missionary parents. Stan and Edna Hollingsworth also served in Iran.
Rev. Robert and Anabelle Miller were missionaries in China. Al and Peggy
Wheeler worked for the Wycliffe Bible Translators for many years. Dr.
Gil and Carol Ashor served in India. Edythe and Joe Kirchmaier were in
Taiwan and Mary Howland was in China recently. Many projects have been
conducted to make useful items to send overseas. Many programs have been
held to raise funds including an International Gift Sale of items made
in the missions overseas to put money directly into the hands of the
most needy.
PARISH NURSE REMINDER: Power outages may continue to occur due to the
Gap Fire. Be sure to check the battery status and use of all medical
devices in the event of power loss and have back up plans for medical
devices. With wind, ash from the fire may be stirred up resulting in
higher particle levels in the air. People with heart and lung disease
including asthma should limit time spent outdoors. When cleaning up ash
or soot use vacuums with HEPA filters, spray areas lightly with water,
and take your car to car wash. If needed you may pick up information on
Disaster Preparedness and evacuation in the church reception area.
SUMMER MISSION PROJECT - Our Sunday School children have elected to put
together health/hygiene kits for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to
distribute to those in need. You can help by purchasing items to go in
the kits. See insert for the needs list. Look for the special box on the
patio or in the reception office. For more information call Susan or
Chuck at the church: 687-0754.
THE PRAYER CHAIN is available to pray for your needs. In the Narthex and
Fireside Lounge are Prayer Boxes provided by the Congregational Care
Ministry. Please place a request form in the box, email Chuck at: ccurtis@fpcsb.org or call 687-0754 x102. Requests are kept confidential.
