LIFE OF THE CHURCH THE FLOWERS this morning are dedicated by Bob Wilke in loving memory of Virginia Fenske Wilke. Following worship the Deacons will take the flowers to those who are ill or homebound. ADULT EDUCATION Sunday, August 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 9 a.m. - “Jubilee! Luke’s Gospel for the Poor”: a Bible study by Dale Lindsay Morgan. Noni Patchell will introduce lessons from this talented speaker, writer, and teacher’s latest Bible study. The study highlights Jesus’ message of Jubilee “…he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor … to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free…” (Luke 4:18). Come learn about “the ways that Christ’s jubilee message turned the world upside down, exalting the poor and including outsiders, bringing the love of God to all.” A MEMORIAL SERVICE celebrating the life of Lyle Hillegas will be held Wednesday, August 13 at 6:00 p.m. at El Montecito Presbyterian Church CHURCH HISTORY BRIEFS by Junie Merrill - For 18 years, the VACS (Volunteers at Constance/State) manicured the campus on Saturdays, getting it ready for the Sunday congregations. VACS was founded by Cal Reynolds and the teams of men mowed lawns, swept sidewalks, and in general cleaned up our grounds before adjoining to a nearby coffee shop where they solved the problems of the world over coffee and doughnuts. Sash Irvine and Bill Whitehouse helped with leadership of the VACS. FROM OUR PARISH NURSE - 1. COFFEE SALE: Fair Trade Coffee Sale extended until August 24th.
