Shotguns Are Needed!
Our Van Ministry is in desperate need of shotguns. These critical volunteers help with the cell phoning of riders, help riders on and off the vans, and generally help to make each pick-up and return a pleasurable experience for all. Many of you have participated in this ministry before and know how rewarding it is. Some of you have not yet discovered the fun and satisfaction. Whether you would be a returning veteran or a willing newcomer, WE NEED YOU! Vans leave the church at about 9:20 and return by 10:10 or so for the pick-up. The return ride leaves the church soon after the 10:30 service is over and is back to the church about 12:20 or so.

Luncheon Celebrates Pastor Judith's Return from Sabbatical and Helps Launch Our Capital Campaign
On Sunday, November 16th, our church hosted a luncheon to welcome Pastor Judith back to First Pres following her four-month sabbatical. She sends her sincere thanks for the great reception and is very happy to be back with our church family. If anyone would like to see a few photos of her travels with Dave, they are available at this link. The Capital Campaign has begun in earnest and promises to be a great program to bring members together in a shared vision of our mission and to provide a more solid financial basis for our work. Visit our Photo Gallery to see more photos of Sunday's event.

CHURCH HISTORY BRIEFS by George Goodall We have a touch of the past in our midst and we didn’t know it! Most of us know Alexander “Sash” and Wilda Irvine. Sash is our Greeter par excellence at the door to the 10:30am service, while Wilda handles the reception desk and phone. Both of them have served our church most of their lives. BUT, did you know that Sash’s grandfather was one of our pastors in the 1920’s? The Reverend Alexander Irvine, PhD, D.D., retired to Santa Barbara after a distinguished career as a Presbyterian pastor, professor, and author. In those days, our Church held three regular services each week: Sundays at 11 am and 7:30 pm, and Wednesdays at 7:30pm. Dr. Irvine preached regularly at the Sunday evening service, as well as serving the Lord in many other ways. By the way our Church was located then on Anapamu Street, across from the Library, and our senior pastor was Rev. Clarence Spaulding, D.D. Now you can “greet our greeter” with this new information.

Our church is dependent upon our pledges and donations to do God’s work in our congregation, community and the world. As has been reported in recent Congregational meetings and in the annual report, our expenses have exceeded our income for the past several years. These shortfalls have been covered by the use of our reserve funds, which have been built up over previous years.
