Peter's Message
Dear Friends,

If I were to bring up the subject of our financial campaign, Building a Bridge to Our Future, your first thought would be Money. (The church wants it. I'll be asked to contribute it. How much can I afford?) But there's a different set of questions I'd like you to consider. What is my prayer for the church? What would I like to see happen in ministry? How is God calling me to make a difference today?

Ask these questions first and the money question shifts from What should I do for the campaign? to How am I called to help the church move forward? I invite you to keep this question in your thoughts and prayers.

I'm excited about how this campaign will strengthen our ministry and enable our outreach to the Santa Barbara community. The church's music program and youth and children's ministries, already strong, will be sustained. We'll meet members' transportation needs with new vans. We'll develop a children's music program. We'll give Anderson Lounge a much-needed makeover. And we'll call a new associate pastor to join Judith and me on our pastoral team focusing on reaching new generations of believers -- youth and families, couples and singles -- who desire deep and authentic Christian faith and a vital outreach to a needy world. With God's help, we will make it happen.

Participation is key. We are all important to the success of this campaign. If the level of your participation makes you happy -- if it gives you a deep and good feeling -- then you are giving the right amount. Dollars follow prayers. Pleasure in giving is not a non sequitur, it is at the heart of the Christian life.

Thank you for your part in this ministry, present and future.

Peter

Jukebox Saturday Night Celebrates the 40's, 50's and 60's
On Saturday, February 14th, our church celebrated Valentine's Day by having an appreciation of our Baby Boomers and the music of their younger years. With Jim Patchell's excellent talents as DJ, Noni's organizational and leadership skills, and a great committee to put it all together, the event was a huge success. There was even an appearance by Elvis! Congratulations to all who participated in this fun event and opportunity for Christian fellowship.

THE STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE IS PLEASED TO REPORT that we have received Pledges for 2009 in the amount of $544,566. This is short of our approved budget of $560,000. However, this is actually only a 2.7% shortfall in a year of challenging financial concerns. We are extremely grateful for the commitment to the ministry of First Presbyterian Church these pledges represent. We are blessed.

OFF TO THE UKRAINE. The generous people of First Presbyterian Church have responded to the call for help from Nita Hanson add God’s Hidden Treasures.
