Congregational Meeting Gets Updates on Assoc. Pastor Search and Other Programs
On Sunday, Jan. 31, we held our annual Congregational Meeting. Several speakers gave updates on church programs, including the progress made by our new Associate Pastor search committee. Thanks to all who are working so hard to make First Pres the best it can be! Congratulations to Herb Linville, who was honored at the meeting for his wonderful service to our church.

"Church Family Fun" Event a Great Success
On January 23, a group of young families from our church participated in a docent led hike on the Carpinteria Salt Marsh. Church member and avid naturalist Allen Braithwaite offered the group a fun and educational experience, and we hope he will share his amazing knowledge of local plant and animal life with us yet again! To find out how you can become involved in activities for young families, please contact Susan Croshaw at the church.

Youth Appreciation Sunday
The Youth are showing their appreciation for everyone in the congregation on Sunday, February 14. After your church service, get your pint of home made soup from the youth! Have a Happy Valentine's Day with Mmmm, Comfort Food! Soup making will happen on Saturday, February 13

Youth News from Josh, Our Youth Director:
We are excited to be going to Forest Home Christian Camp in Forest Falls, CA in the San Bernardino Mountains. They received several feet of snow with this last series of storms, so there should be plenty of the white stuff left for us to play in.  There will be a total of 10 junior high students being led by Lindsay and me.  We leave Friday evening and will return Sunday night (Feb. 5th -7th).  Our kids will have such activity options as sledding, zip line, climbing wall, game room, hiking, etc... Also, Mark Oestreicher, author and former president of Youth Specialties with over 25 years experience in working with middle school students, will be the weekend's guest speaker.

Sign Up for Your LifeTouch Directory Portrait Session
We encourage you to sign up for your Portrait Session as soon as possible. There are three easy ways:
1. Sign up online. It's easy and only takes a few minutes. This can be done at any time day or night, except that on Saturday at 9 pm we "shut down" the online sign ups in order to print pages for Sunday morning sign ups at tables (see #3 below). The online sign ups are switched back on as soon as the Sunday table sign ups are recorded. Just click the link/image below to sign up online.
2. Sign up by calling Juleine at the church: 687-0754
3. Sign up at a table before or after services on Sundays: Beginning Jan. 10, tables will be set up after the 9 o'clock and 10:30 services. Look for the signs and the friendly volunteers!

Dear Adopt-A-Family Sponsor!
We hope this email finds you settling in well to 2010!
As we are slowly putting away all the Christmas decorations and supplies from 2009, we can't help but reflect on what a fantastic Christmas season we had! Even though it is a very busy time of year for all of us here at The Salvation Army, it is also a time of great joy and satisfaction as we are able to provide for so many in our community!
And part of the reason we are able to provide for so many is because of the generosity of people like you! Your Adopt-a-Family sponsorship was not only a blessing to us, but a huge blessing to the families that received the toys, gift cards, and food.
We wish you could have been here when the families came to receive their gifts - we wish you could have experienced the smiles, the gratitude, and the many hugs. Our favorite part was when children came with their parents to pick up their items - the joy on their faces and the look in their eyes made our Christmas season extra special and the hard work so worthwhile!
Please accept our deepest thanks to you for your generosity this past Christmas through your Adopt-a-Family sponsorship - we see now that Santa Barbara is a very caring and generous community!
It is our prayer that 2010 promises to be a prosperous year for you and that God will bless you richly.
God Bless,
Captains Philip and Lawry Smith,
Corps Officers

LIFE OF THE CHURCH

A GIFT FROM OUR YOUTH: Susan Croshaw (Children’s Ministries Director) and Josh Murray (Youth Ministries Director) invite everyone in the congregation to come to church on Sunday the 14th, and get their pint of Valentine's Soup from the youth. This is in appreciation for everyone's enthusiastic and constant support of the youth!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for 5 Wishes Facilitator Training Tuesday February 16th from 1-5PM. Five Wishes has become America’s most popular living will because it is written in everyday language and helps start conversations about your health care should you become seriously ill. You may already have a living will or durable power of attorney for health care, however if you want to use the Five Wishes instead all you need to do is fill out a new Five Wishes and destroy all copies of your old living will or advance health directive. Interested people please contact Pastor Judith or Sharon Troll, Parish Nurse, 687-0754.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, COLLEGE STUDENTS, AND YOUNG ADULTS!! Josh Murray will meet you on the Patio on Sunday mornings at 10:30 for a pilgrimage to a nearby coffee shop or restaurant for a time of discussion, prayer, and fellowship.
