Early Childhood Center

Serving families with children from 3 months through 5 years

Year Round - both full and part time.

The First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara demonstrates its commitment to the well being of the young children and their families of our community by providing affordable quality early care and education. As an expression of God’s love, the Early Childhood Center strives to be responsive to and respectful of the individual needs of each unique child. The Center’s program is designed to facilitate the healthy growth of the whole child, which includes emotional, social, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development. Building a caring community of parents and teachers surrounds children with the nurturing they need to thrive.

Our Infant/Toddler Program

Small groups, low ratios, primary caregivers, and the development of long-term, respectful relationships make our program unique. Infant/Toddler teachers stay with their group of children through the transition into preschool. Because of their secure attachment to their family and teachers, children are free to explore the well-planned learning environment. Teachers & parents share information and ideas on a daily basis.

Our Preschool Program

Relationships built on understanding are also at the center of our preschool program. Each room offers the basic materials for active learning – blocks, dramatic play, art, manipulatives, science. Teachers use subjects that excite children to support the curriculum goals. Topics may change quickly or be explored all month. Learning letters and numbers takes place within this active exploration. Academic skills are only one of the important things that young children need to learn. Most important to school success is learning to love school, to become competent problem solvers, and to feel good about oneself. A weekly Chapel time lets children learn about God’s love & gifts to the world while a weekly music class lets children explore rhythm, melody, and movement.

Enrollment is offered for full time (7:30am to 5:30pm, Monday – Friday) or part time (MWF full days, TuTh full days, five mornings or five afternoons). Limited scholarships may be available. Our thanks to the Daniel Orfalea funds for their support of our scholarship program.
